Russia missed its chance to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said chief editor of Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) Alexey Venediktov at a press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I am absolutely convinced that the Russo-Georgian war hasn’t brought resolution to either the Nagorno-Karabakh nor the Transnistrian conflict any closer,” he said.<\/p>\n

According to Venediktov, the strengthening of the Russian base in Armenia pushes Azerbaijan toward closer cooperation with NATO.<\/p>\n

Settling any territorial conflict, according to the senior editor, means resolving the issue of refugees.<\/p>\n

“Just imagine what refugee’s right to property means. For example, Northern Cyprus. Thirty-six years of passed, and they’ve just recognized the need to assess each builiding and pay the market price…\u00a0 What’s important is that there’s a house to which its owners can’t return. And their children and grandchildren will remember that, if the issue isn’t settled. The same goes for Israel and Palestine. Is that what you want? The first step is that people have to receive compensation, either by returning to their place of residence or receiving an agreed-upon compensation for that which they’ve lost.
