On Sept. 19, the opening ceremony of an Armenian khatchkar (cross-stone) dedicated to the memory of Armenian martyrs who perished in WWI and WWI took place in one of the central squares of Amsterdam’s De Nieuwe Ooster cemetery, according to the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs press office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony was presided over by the spiritual leader of the Dutch-Armenian community, Tatev Muradyan and the Republic of Armenia Consul in The Hague Arshak Manukyan, after which the ritual of consecrating the cross took place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The khatchkar is made of Belgian basalt stone, and the sculptor is Holland resident Eduard Harutyunyan, whose “Source” statute was placed in one of the squares in the town of Kapelle two weeks before.<\/p>\n
