The 2010 World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, ended on Sunday, Oct. 3. The winner of the last two Olympiads \u2014 the Armenian team \u2014 was left out of the running from the top 3 spots this year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the tournament’s official website, Russia-1 only drew their match against Spain and were unable to challenge supremacy of the brilliant Ukrainian team. Ukraine made a draw with Israel and secured the gold; Russians remained a point behind and took the silver. Israel and Hungary shared the 3rd<\/sup> place; however, a better tie-break score gave the bronze to the Israeli athletes. <\/p>\n

In the last round, Armenia played off against France and tied: Gabriel Sargissian and Arman Pashikian ended their games with a score of 0.5-0.5 each, while Vladimir Akopian lost (0-1) and only Levon Aronian won his game against France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (1-0).<\/p>\n
