The message for World Standards Day in 2010 is “Standards make the world accessible for all,” said Armenia’s National Institute of Standards Director Yenok Azaryan at a press conference today. He noted that World Standards Day will be marked on Oct. 14, 2010, for the 41st time.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Head of the organization’s National Standards Fund Maintainance and Information Department, Artur Stepanyan said that about 210 national standards in the “main branches of economy” were adopted and implemented in 2009\u20132010, of which 60% are in line with international and European standards.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Applying those standards will help increase exports, increase product quality and competitiveness, introduce innovative technologies and ensure product safety in the consumer market,” said Stepanyan.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Asked whether Armenian entrepreneurs have reached that level of realization where they can ask for the Institute’s assistance, Stepanyan said that standardization is voluntary.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Not all entrepreneurs and manufacturers have reached that [level of] realization, that they need standards. They still have the approach that the state creates standards for them, they should apply them,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
According to Stepanyan, manufacturers, designers, and testing laboratories around the world participate in the standardization process.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Manufacturers themselves finance the standardization work, so that their products can enter the global market,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
