The parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the OSCE Minsk Group are going to the Astana summit loaded with perpetual war and inaction, said Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives Chair Georgi Vanyan in a recent interview with 1news.az.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to him, the Astana summit, as well as previous summits, all formats that are designed to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, beginning from high-level meetings to tourism implemented within the frames of national democracy, are simply processes for maintaining the status quo and are quite distant from the depiction <\/b>of the existing catastrophic situation, not to mention discussion of options for resolving the conflict.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“If even for a moment we try not to observe those tricks spellbound, it becomes clear that the situation is catastrophic because the likelihood of renewed hostilities in Karabakh at each period is 100%. This one-hundred-percent probability is necessary in order to justify Russia’s long-term presence in the region. The 2008 Russo-Georgian war is a vivid example of this,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives chair, the growth of anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia, which is initiated by the Kremlin, and the strengthening of Russian influence in Azerbaijan are part of the scenario of injecting hostility.<\/p>\n

“Azerbaijan is ready for revenge, while Armenia, with its ostrich policy, relies on the mercy of the international community. In this scenario, our next asylum is the same status quo but with castling [moving the chess king]: Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan, Armenia’s territories are occupied and the end.
