Three sites in the Middle East &#8212; Iraq\u2019s Nineveh, Palestine\u2019s Hisham\u2019s Palace, and Turkey\u2019s Ani &#8212; are among those most in danger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">The ruined city of Ani, on the border of Turkey and Armenia, dates back to the 11th century.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">According to the GHF report, many of Ani\u2019s remaining buildings are now on the brink of collapse. The report said the ruins are under threat from regular picnickers and homeless people who take shelter in its buildings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">GHF executive director Jeff Morgan told CNN that Ani is probably one of the top 10 sites in the world, right up there with Machu Picchu and Angkor Wat. For him, Ani has been \u201ccaught in a political morass,\u201d because of its position on the border of two countries \u2014 Turkey and Armenia \u2014 that don\u2019t have diplomatic relations.
