Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov emphasized the importance of the Astrakhan meeting of presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, particularly considering Baku’s recent bellicose rhetoric and another diversion attack (sabotage) just a day before the Oct. 27 negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, while speaking to journalists today, Sharmazanov said he’s “not very optimistic.”<\/p>\n

“On numerous occasions, the Azerbaijani side, after leaving the negotiating table, specifically in the same St. Petersburg, escaping from negotiations, organized diversion attacks, or having the appearance of a civilized MGIMO [Moscow State Institute of International Relations] graduate at the negotiating table, returning to Baku, adopts a medieval sultan policy,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sharmazanov emphasized the importance of Medvedev’s remarks that the basic principals of the resolution can be agreed before the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) summit in Astrakhan in Dec. 1\u20132.<\/p>\n

“The first is connected with Azerbaijan, which must prove that it’s prepared to work [according to] these basic principles, [and] not just talk of territorial integrity.
