It’s rare that I come to press conferences with “papers” on hand; however, today is an exception because I have brought with me the joint statement by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, said Caucasus Institute Director Alexander Iskandaryan at a press conference today.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The analyst then went on to say that nothing was written in the statement.<\/p>\n

“It says that Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to be members of the Red Cross [meaning, the bodies of prisoners will be repatriated], as well as the existence of Meiendorf, but the word ‘Meiendorf’ is not noted,” he said, referring to the Meiendorf Declaration signed by the presidents in Nov. 2008, in which the conflicting parties agreed to continue negotiations in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. (Meiendorf Castle in Barvikha outside Moscow is one of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s residences.)<\/p>\n

Iskandaryan said that the word ‘Meiendorf’ makes Azerbaijan nervous, which is why it’s likely that the word is not mentioned in the statement.<\/p>\n
