{"id":48281,"date":"2010-11-02T03:03:00","date_gmt":"2010-11-02T03:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/2010\/11\/02\/armenias-largest-voter-base-kept-drug-dependent-says-former-prime-minister\/"},"modified":"2010-11-02T03:03:00","modified_gmt":"2010-11-02T03:03:00","slug":"armenias-largest-voter-base-kept-drug-dependent-says-former-prime-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2010\/11\/02\/armenias-largest-voter-base-kept-drug-dependent-says-former-prime-minister.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenia&#8217;s Largest Voter Base Kept Drug Dependent, Says Former Prime Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">Pension reforms in Armenia are aimed at the largest group of voters, pensioners, by keeping them drug dependent on a 5,000 AMD vote, said Armenia&#8217;s former prime minister, economist Hrant Bagratyan, while speaking to journalists today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">Proposing to tie pensions directly with the average salary, Bagratyan said that the &#8220;optimal&#8221; pension amount must be 50% of the country&#8217;s average salary; however, in Armenia it has dropped from 34% to 20%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">Bagratyan also made comparisons with the relationship between average salaries and pension amounts in neighboring countries:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'; min-height: 16px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px\/normal 'Arian AMU'\">&#8220;In 1995, [monthly] pension payments were $5.70 [USD] in Armenia, $5 in Azerbaijan and $4 in Georgia. The average salary, respectively, was $17.40, $13 and $10.
