Azerbaijan’s representative at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Ziyafet Asgerov, has contacted the relevant NATO bodies and asked to remove the Nagorno-Karabakh resolution from the proposed agenda, since the discussion dates coincided with the days of the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Epress.am, Heritage Party parliamentary faction leader Stepan Safaryan said that they received an official notice from NATO saying that discussion of the resolution would be postponed.<\/p>\n

“First, when the NATO Parliamentary Assembly agreed to discuss Azerbaijan’s proposed resolution, the Armenian side protested, but as always, NATO didn’t accept the Armenian side’s legitimate proposal and approved the resolution for consideration,” said Safaryan. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
According to the MP, two days ago, representatives of the Armenian delegation met, discussed and decided to make only one proposal during the NATO Parliamentary Assembly session, connected to the second paragraph of the resolution which refers to the so-called “occupied territories.”<\/p>\n

“However, I said that I don’t agree to address only that sentence, and I am preparing to submit a dozen proposals, but today we received that notice, about the discussion being postponed,” he said. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He added that the Armenian delegation is preparing to seek clarification from NATO as to what privilege does Azerbaijan have that all of its motions and resolutions are approved.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“This was Azerbaijan’s bidding, which NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly performs. NATO has to understand that such actions can harm relations between Armenia and NATO,” said Safaryan. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The head of the Heritage Party parliamentary faction also informed Epress.am that the consideration of the draft resolution on resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been moved to next year’s NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s annual session, if, of course, there isn’t an extraordinary session in the spring. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
