Chair of the RA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, ARF-D) parliamentary faction head Hrayr Karapetyan said yesterday’s Azerbaijan’s parliamentary elections were not democratic.<\/p>\n

Meeting with journalists today, the parliamentarian said his opinion was based on Russian media reports, while Azerbaijani press, according to Karapetyan, mainly disseminated official reports.<\/p>\n

There were violations in the elections, said the Armenian politician, while expressing hope that the OSCE and European Council observers will provide their objective assessment to the Milli Mejlis elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Comparing elections in Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh, Karapetyan said “both the presidential and the parliamentary elections in Karabakh are a hundred times more democratic than any election in Azerbaijan.”<\/p>\n

Note that Nagorno-Karabakh is a de-facto independent state that broke away from Azerbaijan after a bloody war in the 1990s and is populated mainly by ethnic Armenians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
