The letter sent by RA National Assembly parliamentary factions to international organizations still remains unanswered, said Heritage Party MP Larisa Alaverdyan, while speaking to journalists in Yerevan today. <\/p>\n

About a month ago, the parties had sent a letter to the UN, OSCE, European Council and the European Union, saying that Azerbaijan violated a dozen important articles in the Geneva Convention, naming as an example the case surrounding Manvel Saribekyan, the young Republic of Armenia citizen who crossed the border into Azerbaijan, was taken captive and then died under suspicious circumstances. According to Armenian authorities, Saribekyan was subject to torture while in Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

The RA parliamentarians, said Alaverdyan, asked that Armenian law enforcement member’s requirements also be included during the criminal investigation launched by Azerbaijan (as a rule, a criminal investigation is launched by the state in suicide cases).<\/p>\n

The Armenian deputy noted that the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office is quite actively working on this issue. Vanadzor attorney Karen Stepanyan has said that he is prepared to represent the victim in the case.<\/p>\n

Alaverdyan urged all NGOs and individuals to appeal to other international agencies with the request of raising the issue. She said they have not exhausted all methods of resolving the issue and this process is just beginning. <\/p>\n
