A new exhibit called “Body: New Figurative Art in Armenia” launched at the Artists’ Union of Armenia gallery today. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The exhibit, curated by Ararat Sargsyan, Arevik Arevshatyan, Arman Grigoryan, Sargis Hamalbashyan, and David Kareyan, featured about 200 works by more than 40 contemporary Armenian artists in photography, video art, performance art, painting and sculpture.<\/p>\n

Academy Gallery Director Gor Vardanyan, exhibit curator Ararat Sargsyan, Artists’ Union of Armenia President Karen Aghamyan made opening remarks. Aghamyan also handed out diplomas to the three participants who displayed the best work at the recent Exhibit of Young Artists.<\/p>\n

Exhibit curator Arman Grigoryan, speaking to Epress.am, said that nearly all the works presented at the exhibit aim to show the change in the public’s view regarding the naked body. <\/p>\n

“We hope that this exhibit will become a stimulus so there will be more exhibits devoted to the naked body in the future, also that it will inspire young artists. When the naked body is prevalent, progress is great,” he said. <\/p>\n

It is the hope of exhibit curator David Kareyan, speaking to Epress.am, that this exhibit won’t be received negatively by the public, since over the past few years, with the help of the media, people’s perceptions of the body has changed much.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“It’s enough to watch any TV channel, and we will see how much has change, it’s not like it was 20 years ago in the Soviet Union. I think that more will be discussed than criticized,” he said. <\/p>\n
