Condemning an insignificant person such as Ruben Gevorgyants is pointless, said Stockholm resident, writer Vahe Avetyan (pictured) in a statement he posted on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Recall that days ago, Union of Cinematographers of Armenia President Ruben Gevorgyants, speaking to journalists, had called organizer of the Azerbaijani film festival in Yerevan, Caucasus Center for Peace-Making Initiatives NGO President Georgy Vanyan a “rat.”<\/p>\n

“Rats must be shot. If I’m wrong, let them shoot me. I know that I’m not wrong, [so] they won’t shoot me. They’re going to be erased and gone, they don’t have a right to be called Armenian,” Gevorgyants had said.<\/p>\n

In response to calls for violence against Vanyan, Avetyan also notes that it’s pointless to condemn those who create hate pages in social networks or call for violence.<\/p>\n

Further, he wrote: “It’s pointless to condemn the police, for not launching a criminal case against Gevorgyants and those with bad manners, because they have made calls for violence commonplace, there are numerous witnesses, and the cinematographer has spread his call through a press conference and that’s enough for the police to begin proceedings, [under] Armenia’s present laws.<\/p>\n

“It’s pointless to condemn the self-appointed government, who don’t oblige the police to work, or chide ignorant functionaries and <\/p>\n
crude youth…”<\/p>\n
