Azerbaijan did not accept Tbilisi’s offer to grant Georgia the David Gareja monastery complex in exchange for other lands along the border.<\/p>\n

According to the Kakheti Information Center, Georgia was suggesting to move the Azerbaijan-Georgia border south of Mount Udabno (Dagi). <\/p>\n

This ancient Georgian cultural and religious centre, which has historical and cultural significance to the Georgians, is the main reason for delaying the demarcation and delimitation work of the Azerbaijan-Georgia border, reports Georgia Online. <\/p>\n

The unique David Gareja monastery stretches for nearly 25 kilometers and includes hundreds of cells, churches, chapels, refectories and living quarters hollowed out of the rock face. The monastery was founded in the 6th century by St. David Garejeli, one of the 13 Assyrian monks who arrived in the country at the time.<\/p>\n
