The International Human Rights Day Council obliges us not only to be more attentive in our country to the struggle for the defense of human rights, but also to remember and acknowledge all those who died or suffered while fighting against human rights abuses in Armenia, reads a statement dedicated to Human Rights Day issued by the Heritage Party today. <\/p>\n

“It’s an unfortunate reality that individual rights in our country currently aren’t protected, and rights enshrined in the Law are only a formality. One of the main conditions of establishing civil society is the protection of human rights under the law, which, regretfully, is in a unsatisfactory state in our country. The existence of political prisoners… is the actual assessment of human rights in Armenia, which is also our state’s shame and one of the main obstacles to developing democracy,” reads the statement. <\/p>\n

According to the Heritage Party, in Armenia, there are no alternatives to establishing true democracy and developing civil society in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. Further, the political party will use all its means at its disposal to establish democracy and defend human rights in Armenia. <\/p>\n
