{"id":52484,"date":"2011-01-05T12:47:29","date_gmt":"2011-01-05T08:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=52484"},"modified":"2011-01-05T12:47:29","modified_gmt":"2011-01-05T08:47:29","slug":"half-of-turkish-population-doesn%e2%80%99t-want-to-see-armenian-turkish-border-open-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/01\/05\/half-of-turkish-population-doesn%e2%80%99t-want-to-see-armenian-turkish-border-open-poll.html","title":{"rendered":"Half of Turkish Population Doesn\u2019t Want to See Armenian-Turkish Border Open &#8211; Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ankara-based MetroPOLL Strategic and Social Research Center, owned and run by Professor \u00d6zer Sencar, conducted a survey on the course of internal and foreign politics in Turkey, reports Turkish Today\u2019s Zaman.<\/p>\n<p>Among other questions the respondents have been asked about Turkey\u2019s relations with foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the border between Turkey and Armenia should be opened, 50.3 percent responded \u201cno\u201d. More than 27 percent responded \u201cyes\u201d and around 22 percent declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>While 42.6 percent said the greatest threat to Turkey is posed by the US, 23.7 percent said it is Israel. Israel was followed by Iran with 3 percent, Greece with 2.3 percent, Iraq with 2.1 percent and Russia with 1.7 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also revealed that a clear majority of society supports Turkey\u2019s bid to join the European Union. More than 53 percent said they would vote \u201cyes\u201d if a referendum were held today about Turkey\u2019s aspirations to become a full member to the 27-nation bloc. Over 38 percent said they would vote \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The poll was conducted from Dec. 25 to 29 by telephone among a random national sampling of 1,504 adults residing in cities, towns and villages.
