The Armenian National Congress’ (HAK) political council today discussed its strategy for 2011, as well as its plan of action regarding Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg’s and Co-Rapporteurs’ visits to Armenia, said HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan, speaking to journalists today following the opposition group’s meeting today.<\/p>\n
Meeting participants also spoke on HAK’s education program.<\/p>\n
“The final draft developed by the committees today will be sent to all political parties, which can make their suggestions. And in one or two weeks, there will be a discussion on the education program,” he said.<\/p>\n
According to Zurabyan, the Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted People in Armenia plans to organize rallies during Hammarberg’s Jan. 18 visit. The HAK coordinator assured journalists that HAK supporters will participate in those rallies.<\/p>\n
“Different proposals on pickets, marches and rallies were heard in the political council; however, no final decision has been made, we are in the discussion phase, all those proposals will be summarized and a final decision will be approved,” he said.<\/p>\n
On the matter of the opposition bloc’s plan to “re-conquer” Liberty Square in central Yerevan, Zurabyan said:<\/p>\n
“We had a small break during the New Year [holidays], but naturally the plan to re-conquer Liberty Square is in effect, and very soon we will begin putting forth our claims to [Yerevan] City Hall and the corresponding activities which stem from that.
