{"id":69115,"date":"2011-02-22T14:10:28","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T10:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=69115"},"modified":"2011-02-22T14:11:27","modified_gmt":"2011-02-22T10:11:27","slug":"israel-appoints-first-out-gay-judge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/02\/22\/israel-appoints-first-out-gay-judge.html","title":{"rendered":"Israel Appoints First Out Gay Judge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dori Spivak, an attorney and former Civil Rights Association chairman, was appointed as a judge at the Tel Aviv Labor Court on Friday, reports the UK&#8217;s Pink News.<\/p>\n<p>He is the deputy director of the Tel Aviv University\u2019s law clinics and a longtime gay rights activist.<\/p>\n<p>Spivak has not commented on his new job but friends and fellow activists praised his appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Friend Dan Yakir of the Association for Civil Rights Israel said he was an \u201cexcellent choice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Spivak\u2019s partner and colleague at the university, Dr Yishai Blank, told YNET: \u201cI don\u2019t think sexual preferences had anything to do with this appointment.
