Tension was rising in Azerbaijan since this morning. Activists began a campaign on Facebook<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to hold nationwide anti-government protests on March 11, which they\u2019re calling \u201cGreat People\u2019s Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event has since spread to other media, although specifics are somewhat vague, which seems to be a deliberate tactic, reports the Foreign Policy Blogs Network<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 People are being urged to stage symbolic or actual protests \u201cin a civil way without provocations\u201d in villages and cities across the country.\u00a0 Twitter updates for the event can be found at #11mart.<\/p>\n

Since Mar. 4, activists have been detained by police, and since this morning, police forces have been centralizing in different areas in Baku.<\/p>\n

As mentioned on blogs and social networking sites such as Twitter, activists are attempting to gather in downtown Baku, but police have been preventing their activities. A few tweeps have noted that police have been detaining anyone who approaches the May 28 metro station.<\/p>\n
