This news was conveyed by Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu at an international forum in Istanbul titled “Turkey’s Policy Initiatives in the Modern World.”

According to Davutoglu, the unnamed economist has already been proposed to Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul, who approved the nomination. As for the reason why the appointment is delayed by 3 months, this was upon the Turkish-Armenian economist’s request, so that he may complete one of his works, reports local daily Azg (“Nation”).

“And I understand him. I too have been in his situation: being forced to postpone my personally authored works indefinitely,” said Davutoglu.

Turkey’s foreign minister did not name the ambassador, but it is known that the individual is a MIT professor, he is well-known in the sector and he has participated on a few occasions in international conferences related to Turkey’s economy.

According to Turkey’s Armenian community, the man in question is prominent economist, Professor of Applied Economics at MIT Daron Acemoğlu. According to the collaborative project IDEAS/RePEc (Research Papers in Economics), Acemoğlu is among the 10 most cited economists in the world.

An unnamed Turkish scholar of Armenian descent, an economist by profession will be appointed Turkey’s Ambassador to France.

[10
19318,18683,23991
