{"id":82983,"date":"2011-04-07T13:01:54","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T08:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=82983"},"modified":"2011-04-07T13:03:22","modified_gmt":"2011-04-07T08:03:22","slug":"i-love-you-istanbul-through-the-eyes-of-armenian-photographers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/04\/07\/i-love-you-istanbul-through-the-eyes-of-armenian-photographers.html","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;I Love You Istanbul&#8217; through the Eyes of Armenian Photographers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tucked away behind \u0130stiklal Caddesi and a pair of towering wooden doors on the narrow Fish Market street (Bal\u0131k Pazar\u0131), the Armenian Church of the Three Alters (\u00dc\u00e7 Horan Ermeni Kilisesi) is surprisingly easy to miss, reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayszaman.com\/news-240339-exhibit-explores-roots-of-turkish-photography.html\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Today&#8217;s Zaman<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, over the next month the old building, which dates back over 200 years, will see a marked increase in its number of visitors with the opening of the \u201cKez G\u0131 Sirem \u0130stanbul\/Seni Seviyorum \u0130stanbul\u201d (\u201cI love you \u0130stanbul\u201d) photography exhibition opening on April 14 in the church\u2019s Naregyan gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Curated by Bursa-born Engin \u00d6zendes, the exhibition, which will display over 100 images and documents, will show how \u0130stanbul has changed through the eyes of Armenian photographers, based on three different periods over the past 150 years<\/p>\n<p>The earliest photographs exhibited focus on a period dominated by the ethnically Armenian Ottoman Abdullah brothers, who were instrumental in the birth of Turkish photography, as well as the likes of Pascal Sebah (Sebah &amp; Joaillier) Mihran \u0130ranyan, A\u015fil Samanc\u0131 (Ateliers Apollon) and Bo\u011fos Tarkulyan (Photographie Phebus).<\/p>\n<p>\u00d6zendes also presents an in-depth display of the post-1950 works of globally acclaimed \u0130stanbul-born photographer, Ara G\u00fcler. Of Armenian ancestry, G\u00fcler\u2019s striking \u0130stanbul shots, such as that of Armenian fishermen at Kumkap\u0131 taken in 1952, have marked him as one of the foremost figures in international creative photography.
