{"id":88542,"date":"2011-04-22T15:25:08","date_gmt":"2011-04-22T10:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=88542"},"modified":"2011-04-22T15:30:50","modified_gmt":"2011-04-22T10:30:50","slug":"burning-eyes-memories-of-the-armenians-photo-exhibit-opens-in-istanbul-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/04\/22\/burning-eyes-memories-of-the-armenians-photo-exhibit-opens-in-istanbul-photos.html","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Burning Eyes: Memories of the Armenians&#8217; Photo Exhibit Opens in Istanbul (PHOTOS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An exhibit by French-Armenian photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agoudjian.com\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Antoine Agoudjian<\/span><\/strong><\/a> called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.depoistanbul.net\/en\/activites_detail.asp?ac=48\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Burning Eyes: Memories of the Armenians<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8221; featuring photos taken since 1988 will be on display at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.depoistanbul.net\/en\/index.asp\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">DEPO<\/span><\/strong><\/a> in Istanbul from Apr. 27 to Jun. 5. The exhibit will also be on display in Paris in the fall of 2011.<\/p>\n<p>According to the press release: &#8220;Since 1988, Agoudjian has devoted the months of April to the quest of history, the history of his people and his own history. Agoudjian, like a writer, lives, feels and documents in order to record fragments of his life in his memory; his work goes far beyond recording images.\u00a0 He has traveled to Armenia, Georgia, Karabakh, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Israel and Turkey in order to explore the human conditions of the Armenian communities and his own inner self. Agoudjian\u2019s work continues in his laboratory where, like an alchemist, he plays with shadow and light, accentuating or eliminating certain elements until the image corresponds to his vision.\u00a0In his works, he gives priority to the color black in order to emphasize light: This is the intense black of pain and death, of the lost eyes of orphans. The black of forgotten memories. The black of secrets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is realized with the support of the Gulbenkian Foundation, Fineco, AGBU and Anadolu K\u00fclt\u00fcr.
