Chair of the National Assembly of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan today appealed to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to release imprisoned oppositionist Sasun Mikaelyan:<\/p>\n
“Dear Mr. President, joining the proposal by the parliamentary coalition political forces and being concerned by our former colleague Sasun Mikaelyan’s health, I ask you to consider the possibility of pardoning him.”<\/p>\n
This news was conveyed by the RA National Assembly public relations department.<\/p>\n
Recall, Mikaelyan was arrested on Mar. 12, 2008, and charged with violating Articles 225 (mass disorder) and 235 (illegal weapons possession) during the mass unrest that followed a disputed presidential election in 2008. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, and, according to the website “Wives of Armenia’s Political Prisoners<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,” he is the only one of seven also arrested under similar charges not have been granted amnesty.
