I don’t consider HAK (the Armenian National Congress) to be a political force; it is a political team, said People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan during a press conference in Yerevan today.<\/p>\n
“I don’t think that HAK would want to be indebted to anyone. They achieved their narrow desires, which had to do with their team. The authorities have occupied a strange position, as if they’re making concessions,” he said, adding that the agreement between HAK and the Sargsyan administration was made during the National Assembly elections.<\/p>\n
“They won’t give [seats to] more than 15 parliamentarians, or 14.5 \u2014 14 to HHSh [Pan-Armenian National Movement] and half to Stephan Demirchyan since he doesn’t follow their political line,” he said ironically.<\/p>\n
According to the party leader, the Sargsyan administration and the opposition fear that the situation could spiral out of their control.<\/p>\n
“The people might be disappointed from everyone; right now too they’re deeply disappointed. If the people want HHSh to achieve power, I have nothing to say. Everyone knows that there’s a huge segment [of the population] who want neither [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan nor [HAK leader and Armenia’s first president] Levon Ter-Petrossian, and those people will come with us,” he said, noting that his party can be an alternative political force.<\/p>\n
Karapetyan is confident that a third political force is necessary for Armenia. “It’s a fact that only presidents are playing in the [political] arena today.
