Armenian Political Prisoner Sasun Mikaelyan Might be Released? Aravot

Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan shared with local Armenian daily Aravot (“Morning”) the details of her meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg.

“He said that he met with [political prisoner] Sasun Mikaelyan. And the condition of his health also concerned Mr. Hammarberg. He said, here he sees a possibility that because of his [deteriorating] health, they might release him,” said Postanjyan, reports Aravot.

Today, Hammarberg will meet with Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) chief editor Nikol Pashinyan, who is imprisoned at Artik penitentiary. At the National Assembly yesterday, asked by journalists whether he considers Pashinyan to be a political prisoner, Hammarberg smiled and said, “I will discuss this issue with him.”
