Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian’s political campaign announcing a hunger strike is clearly a PR campaign, which, ahead of tomorrow’s Armenian National Congress rally, aims to diver the public’s attention toward the Heritage Party, ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) press spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov told Epress.am today.
“I have numerously said that even among the opposition there is the struggle for first place; this clearly shows it. Though it is Raffi Hovannisian’s decision and his right, I don’t see any grounds for taking such action since the Heritage Party has both the platform and other levers for raising their concerns. This, at the very least, is incomprehensible for me,” he said.
The HHK spokesperson added that he shares Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) party leader Aram Manukyan’s view that the Heritage Party doesn’t have grounds for taking such extreme action.
“When non-parliamentary political forces hold rallies, protest, that’s understandable, it’s normal, since they don’t have the platform [being left out of parliament] and they have to get their word to the people somehow. In Raffi Hovannisian’s case, it’s clearer than clear that this is a PR campaign. Perhaps the man thinks that the march after tomorrow’s rally will join him and he will have an opportunity to talk, I don’t know,” he said.
