Turkey plays a key role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said professor in the Faculty of Philosophy and head of the Department of Theory and Philosophy of Politics at St. Petersburg State University Vladimir Gutorov, who was in Yerevan to participate in an international conference titled “Armenian-Turkish relations: their impact on geopolitical development in the region and media coverage.”
“Turkey once and for all said that it will support Azerbaijan and that it is desirable that a settlement is reached through peaceful means.
“Here there are totally stark contradictions: to some extent it is a political impasse, and the two countries won’t get out of this impasse without the support of international organizations. This is indicated by the recurring visits of Members of European Parliament (MEPs), and, incidentally, the views of the European Parliament are not in Turkey’s favor,” he said.
Asked whether the Karabakh conflict should be resolved separately from the issue of Armenia-Turkey relations, Gutorov said, “Only in one package and through an integrated approach — another solution is impossible. Taking into account the views of the Azerbaijani party too.”
These conflicts, according to the professor, must be addressed simultaneously, “but it never turns out that way.”
