Glendale Armenian Resident Shot Dead at Side of the Road

Glendale resident Adrine Arzumanyan is the woman who was allegedly shot, killed and then pushed out of a car Friday onto the side of the 210 Freeway in Glendale, California, reports the Glendale News-Press.

Arzumanyan’s relatives gathered Saturday morning at her ground-floor apartment in a complex off Glenoaks Avenue, some sobbing uncontrollably. Her brother, Vic Arzumanyan, said that investigators had provided little information about the case, and that the family did not know the identity of the Glendale man who was with his sister.

“It was an accident,” Vic Arzumanyan said.

The LA County Coroner’s Department confirmed Saturday that Adrine Arzumanyan, 33, was declared dead at roughly 5:20 pm Friday, after Glendale police officers found her body on the westbound shoulder of the Foothill (210) Freeway near La Crescenta Avenue.

At around the same time, Glendale police stopped a man in a black Honda on the Glendale (2) Freeway at Mountain Road.

The man, who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his upper torso, according to a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department report, is believed to have pushed Adrine Arzumanyan out of the car. He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Glendale police turned the investigation over to the Sheriff’s Department, which has jurisdiction in the case. Sheriff’s officials did not disclose the man’s identity Saturday, and Huntington Memorial Hospital officials declined to disclose his medical condition.

On Friday night, detectives interviewed drivers who pulled over after witnessing the shooting, and traffic backed up on the 210 Freeway with the right lane closed for the investigation.

“There is a possibility that a witness saw some type of scuffle inside the vehicle as they were approaching La Crescenta [Avenue],” LA County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Mike Rosson said.

Adrine Arzumanyan’s body was covered with a white sheet by the side of the road for several hours as officials with the county coroner’s office investigated.
