A media report published today stating that Petros Ghazaryan, director of the Kentron TV news programs and host of the popular talk show Urvagits, has been let go is untrue: Ghazaryan continues to hold the position of director of news programs on Kentron TV. The popular TV host told Epress.am this himself today.
Local daily Hraparak, in a story published Wednesday, reported that about 20 days ago Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan had made some personnel changes at Kentron TV (which he owns), and Petros Ghazaryan’s fondness for the presidential residence became the reason to fire him. According to Hraparak, Ghazaryan didn’t deal with the news too well, as a result of which he was absent from work for a week.
Speaking to Epress.am, Ghazaryan said he wasn’t at work for a week because he was in Istanbul covering Turkey’s parliamentary elections.
On Hraparak’s report that Baghdasar Mheryan has been assigned the position of director of Kentron TV news programs, Ghazaryan said Mheryan has accepted a position at Kentron TV — but as the chief editor of the news program.
Responding to the apparent inaccuracies in Hraparak’s piece, Petros Ghazaryan today wrote on his Facebook page:
“I read in Hraparak newspaper that my fondness for the president’s residence has become a reason for them to dismiss me as director of news programs. And I didn’t deal with that too well and didn’t go to work for a week. How much does one have to not respect his readers to write such lies.”
