President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych (pictured) will try his best to help Azerbaijan solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Ukrainian energy expert Alexander Narbut in an interview with Vesti.az. According to him, the question is whether Russia wants to resolve this conflict, having military bases in Armenia and its own special interests in the South Caucasus.
“Russia is in fact interested in maintaining the level of instability in the region, because then its military presence and intervention will be needed. That is, if all the conflicts in the South Caucasus would be resolved, then each of the states in the region will begin to serious think about their maintaining their own security themselves. And so, everyone is searching for those who will stand behind him,” said Narbut, while stating that he did not want to overestimate Ukraine’s possibilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“I think that Ukraine has traditionally tried to proceed as follows: show a certain level of neutrality, to ensure maximum support… We remember the August 2008 war and the participation of Ukrainian technical equipment. I think that in this case, Ukraine will be ready for close cooperation with Azerbaijan, by providing it with technical capabilities of those weapons that we can deliver,” he said.
