Armenian President Welcomes, Congratulates Nobel Prize Winner

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today welcomed to his office former winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences Vice-President and member of Russia’s State Parliament (the Duma) Zhores I. Alferov.

The Armenian leader emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific-educational ties in the context of an Armenian-Russian strategic partnership.

“I hope that this cooperation, which has a rich history and tradition, will become a basis for new scientific achievements — for the benefit of all mankind and our two friendly nations,” he said, according to a statement on the Armenian president’s official website.

Sargsyan also congratulated Alferov on being elected to Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences as an honorary member.

During their conversation, the two parties discussed prospective areas of development of modern science, and issues related to the organization of scientific work and the encouragement of new technologies.
