A head of an Armenian state agency secretly visited Israel last week, a well-informed source reportedly told the IzRus news portal. The delegation headed by the senior official was comprised of three people who spent a few days in Israel.
The guests visited local attractionis in the north and center of the country, as well as the Armenian quarter in Jerusalem. Those who greeted the delegation were pleasantly surprised by delegates’ education and knowledge of Israel’s history and domestic politics, writes political analyst Igor Gantman in IzRus.
As reported by the source, the visit was initiated by Israeli Ambassador to Armenia Shmuel Meirom.
IzRus’ source said that the Armenian delegation didn’t meet with any members of Israel’s political leadership. The visit, according to the source, was exclusively for “primary, getting-to-know-each other contact”. No specific transactions or projects were discussed.
However, the IzRus source added, “The Armenian side is of the opinion that the crisis in Turkish-Israeli relations has created preconditions for reviving ties between Yerevan and Jerusalem.”
