Egg Imports to Armenia Temporarily Banned: Paper

Imports of consumer eggs has been suspended temporarily, reports local daily Zhoghovurd.

President of the Union of Poultry Breeders of the Republic of Armenia Sergei Stepanyan informed the newspaper that the Armenian government, agreeing to the request of local egg manufacturers, temporarily banned egg imports.

Zhoghovurd reports that Armenian egg manufacturers have long fought against the import of eggs from abroad.

Stepanyan said local poultry breeders are "very happy" with this move, adding that eggs are unlikely to decrease in price.
