Armenian-Russian Club Meetings Convene in Russian, Language Law Violated According to MPs

On December 9, the Armenian-Russian parliamentary friendship club’s meeting took place at the National Assembly in Russian, which is a violation of the law on language, said HAK faction MP Nikol Pashinyan during Foreign Relations standing committee session while condemning the violation.

The Committee chairman, Republican Party MP Artak Zakaryan, countered saying that the club’s meeting was of a non-formal nature.

In response, Pashinyan cited State Language Department Deputy-Head Marine Hovyan, who had said that in such incidents, according to the law, in non-Armenian events there must be Armenian translation.

The Heritage faction MP Alexander Arzumanyan noted that “non-formal” meetings can be held at “Bellagio”(restaurant), but not in the National Assembly building.

Note, that in the past Armenian-Russian parliamentary friendship club meetings have always been conducted in Russian.
