Armenia's Investigative Committee reported Thursday evening that at about noon on December 9 conscript Razmik Abrahamyan received a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest at a military unit of Armenia's Defense Ministry. On the same day, authorities said, Abrahamyan was rushed to Chambarak Health Center in grave condition. He was later transferred to the Central Military Hospital of the Defense Ministry.
The conscript, as stated by investigators, attempted suicide by self-inflicting an injury from a firearm belonging to unit commander, Lieutenant H. Yeghiazaryan.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated pursuant to Part 3 of Article 359 of Armenia's Criminal Code – “breach of relations with grave consequences between not subordinated servicemen expressed in humiliation of the person’s honor and self-esteem, persecution or violence.”
Three soldiers – A. Karapetyan, S. Melkonyan, and V. Ter-Vardanyan – were arrested Thursday on corresponding charges.
Abrahamyan accused his fellow servicemen of pushing him to suicide in a note recovered from his clothes, authorities' statement claimed.
