Hundreds of People Bade Last Farewell to Ohan Duryan

It is a big loss and the only consolation is that I hope that our nation’s womb will continue giving birth to such talents as Ohan Duryan, said actor Armen Elbakyan in his interview to journalists speaking about renowned conductor Ohan Duryan.

Today at 12.00-14.00 hundreds of people bade their last farewell to the prominent maestro at the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatre.

“It’s a very painful loss for all people, for all art lovers. It’s very sad that the last of the Mohicans are leaving us. Ohan Duryan’s essence was in his ecstasy in music. Duryan was crazy in music,” said film director Albert Mkrtchyan.

Actor Azat Gasparyan also said in his interview to Epress.am that Ohan Duryan’s death caused big pain to all Armenians.

“I am not speaking about his civic position now, we lost a renowned musician,” said Gasparyan.

Singer Ruben Matevosyan, speaking about Ohan Duryan’s talent, said:
“Duryan was one of those who managed to represent Armenian conductor’s art in Europe. Duryan has always been appreciated, of course, he had an irreconcilable character but it has nothing to do with his music, it’s another issue, but no one can deny that he was a prominent figure. If Ohan Duryan is going to be buried in our Pantheon it means that he is appreciated,” Matevosyan said.

“Armenian people worship Ohan Duryan’s spirit. I respected his spirit, not only his talent and his music. His civic position was his inimitable spirit which he held high,” said academician Rafael Ghazaryan’s widow Grizelda Ghazaryan in her interview to Epress.am.

She noted, however, that Ohan Duryan was not appreciated in Armenia.
“Who would appreciate him, these ignorant people? The only thing they care for is the money,” she said.

“It’s very painful that he is not with us any more, although, as a rule, conductors are long-livers, they can work even seated for many years, history knows such cases. His loss is a big pain,” noted conductor Robert Mlkeyan.

Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan said to the journalists that Ohan Duryan’s appreciation is given by the people.

“The big crowd gathered here is the appreciation of Ohan Duryan’s talent and there is no need for other interpretations. Only great people like Ohan Duryan deserve the farewell we bid him today,” she said.
