40 Soldiers Poisoned in Ararat Military Unit: Newspaper

Mass poisoning has been recorded in a military unit in the town of Ararat, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak, citings its own sources.

The newspaper writes that the incident occurred four days ago and around 40 soldiers were poisoned. The soldiers said they got food poisoning from the military unit's tearoom and from the chicken served in the dining hall. Despite the soldiers' claims, military police are trying to put the blame of food poisoning on the establishments near the military unit. Samples from several establishments were sent for examination and inspections were carried out.

In order to confirm the allegations, Haykakan Zhamanak yesterday contacted the Ministry of Defense spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan, who said there had been no poisoning as such, "just a small, insignificant thing," and the soldiers were examined in the hospital and again returned to service.
