NGO Demands Prosecutor General Provide the Copy of Letter to Russian Colleague Regarding Permyakov’s Transfer

Today, the Union of Informed Citizens NGO applied to Administrative Court demanding that the court obliged the Prosecutor's office to provide a copy of Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan’s letter to Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika with the demand of transferring the suspected murderer of the seven members of Avetisyan family Russian soldier Valery Permyakov to Armenian law enforcement. The Prosecutor General has released a statement on February 3 about sending the letter.

The NGO’s released statement notes that on February 4 they applied immediately to the Prosecutor’s office asking them to provide the letter. “And although the Law on Freedom of Information states that information asked for must be provided within 5 days, the Prosecutor’s office still hasn’t given a response,” said the statement.

Recall, that on January 15, thousands of people protested in front of Gyumri's Prosecutor's office demanding that RA Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan appealed to the Russian side to transfer the criminal case to Armenian law enforcement. The Prosecutor General promised he would send it, however he did not state a deadline.
