An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 has struck a town in western Turkey but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries, reports the UK Press Association.
The Istanbul-based Kandilli seismology center says the quake occurred at 5:23 am (0223 GMT), in the town of Balya, in Balikesir province.
Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, which is crossed by faultlines.
In 1999, two powerful earthquakes struck northwestern Turkey, killing about 18,000 people.
