Armavia to Join New Airline Alliance

Israel’s El-Al Airlines, Russia’s UTair, Ukraine’s Aerosvit and Armenia’s Armavia signed a declaration on creating an international aviation council called WE (Western-Eastern). According to the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, the four companies are preparing to finalize the agreement in the coming 90 days. At this time, they are in talks with European countries and CIS, with the aim of increasing the aviation council’s members to 20 within a year’s time, reports Izrus.

WE will be the fourth international airline alliance after Star Alliance, SkyTeam and OneWorld.

WE will be an alternative to those companies who, for political reasons, haven’t become a member of this or that union, or for large companies who have fears of not being able to handle the competition.

Creating WE was the brainchild of Israel’s El-Al Airlines.
