Istanbul companies made half of Turkey’s foreign trade in the first eight months of 2010, World Bulletin reports, citing Anadolu Ajansi.
Istanbul exported products worth 34.6 billion USD, and imported 60.5 billion USD in the mentioned period.
According to figures of the Foreign Trade Undersecretariat, Istanbul’s share in Turkey’s export is 47.4 percent, and in import is 52.6 percent.
A total of 23,319 companies from Istanbul made the 34.6 billion USD of export in January-August, 2010.
The northwestern province of Bursa followed Istanbul in export. A total of 2,610 companies made 7 billion USD of export in Bursa.
Again another northwestern province, Kocaeli, is on the third rank by making 5.9 billion USD of export with 904 companies.
3,447 companies from western province of Izmir made 4.2 billion USD of export, while 2,937 companies from capital Ankara made 3.8 billion USD of export in the mentioned period.
In import, Istanbul’s figure is 60.5 billion USD with 30,031 importer company, while Kocaeli made 14 billion USD of import with 1,012 companies, and Ankara made 11.5 billion USD of import with 4,943 companies.
Meanwhile, the astern Turkish province of Tunceli made the lowest export of the country with 40,000 USD, and also lowest import with 24,000 USD in January-August, 2010.
As of the end of August, 2010, Turkey has 44,261 export and 51,297 import companies.
