New PACE Monitoring Committee Co-Rapporteur Elected: Aravot

The Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), during its meeting in Paris yesterday, discussed the 7th item on its agenda: replacing chair of the PACE Swedish delegation, co-rapporteur Göran Lindblad, reports local daily Aravot (“Morning”).

Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE Davit Harutyunyan, responding to a question by Aravot after yesterday’s meeting, said the new co-rapporteur Axel Fischer is German and the Armenian delegation’s contact with Fischer yesterday was very brief. “I simply congratulated him,” said Harutyunyan.

During the meeting of the Monitoring Committee (also known as the Committee on Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe), Armen Rustamyan, representing the opposition in Armenia’s parliament, asked, on behalf of the opposition, that the bill on the Electoral Code which they put forth to be sent again to the Venice Commission, on behalf of the Monitoring Committee. It was agreed to re-send the bill.
