This is like spitting on the people’s face. This is how Heritage Party MP Stepan (Styopa) Safaryan describes Armenia’s ruling coalition’s statement yesterday.
“Frankly, I was amazed that such a document could be signed, which is not only embarrassing for the country, but also should have been embarrassing for the signatories. The middle brother is younger than the oldest brother. This means an announcement on rigging the forthcoming parliamentary elections,” he said.
The party member said it would’ve been more decent or modest to hold a joint conference and announce that the parties were joining forces.
According to Safaryan, the statement alludes to the following: “We’re going to keep the ratio of big to small; as for who gets what, that’s to be bargained.”
In Safaryan’s opinion, the Heritage Party continues to remain that political force which considers unity in the opposition as one of the conditions necessary for change in the country.
“We have tried and try to cooperate with our opposition colleagues. How the format of the unity will be doesn’t matter; what’s important is that we all move in the same direction and resolve those issues which exist,” he said.
Speaking about cooperation with the Armenian National Congress, Safaryan said, “[their] approach of join me, accept this, accept that is the same as the Republicans’ approach; it’s the birth of an approach like this declaration.”
“We should agree to support each other on the agenda,” he said.
