‘Shameful Trial’: Samson Khachatryan Sentenced to 2 Months’ Imprisonment

Armenian National Congress (HAK) member, well-known boxer Samson Khachatryan was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment by the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts today. Recall, Khachatryan was arrested on Mar. 13 and is charged under RA Criminal Code Article 316 Section 1 (violence against a representative of the authorities), connected to an incident that took place during the March 1 HAK rally.

Speaking to journalists, Khachatryan’s attorney Ara Zakaryan said Heritage Party MPs guarantee that his clients will be present during the trial and won’t leave the country, intervening so that the accused could be set free on bail.

However, according to Zakaryan, Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan didn’t even allow the guarantee to be presented and sentenced the HAK member to two months’ imprisonment.

“I hadn’t seen such a shameful trial,” Zakaryan told journalists.
