Heritage Party Executive Secretary Karine Hakobyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today, said Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian gave the reason for his “Fast for Freedom” hunger strike during his last speech in parliament.
Hakobyan recalled that Hovannisian dedicated his speech before the start of the hunger strike to the situation in the country and said the declaration signed by the parties in the ruling coalition was a message aimed at not only the opposition, but also the public, where the principle “there’s no match for us” was present.
“Raffi Hovannisian said, ‘there is a match for you’ and we will defend the people’s vote with the cost of our life,” she said.
As previously reported, Hovannisian began his hunger strike on Mar. 15 in Liberty Square and ended it on Mar. 30.
Hovannisian said that he is dedicating his “Fast for Freedom” to the twentieth anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. He added, the “first act” of the fast has come to an end: tomorrow is his daughter Shushi’s 18th birthday and he would like to fulfill his familial obligations, since lately his forsaken his duties as a father.
