For the Barcelona–Manchester United Champions League final on May 28, the two teams will fly to London on board a Turkish Airlines (THY) aircraft, reports Turkish daily Yeni Şafak.
THY is the official sponsor of both teams. The airline company signed a three-year contract with Barcelona at the start of 2010, for which the Catalan football club receives $4 million US annually from the Turkish company. THY signed its 3.5-year contract with Manchester United in May 2010, for which the English club will receive $10 million euros overall.
THY highly praises the fruitfulness of these contracts, particularly considering the fact that both teams made it to the Champions League final.
As previously reported, Earlier this year, THY signed a 1.5-year deal with FC Shakhtar Donetsk, a Ukrainian professional association football club in which Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays.
A few months ago, THY signed Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant as its “global brand ambassador” for the next two years. Bryant’s latest endorsement deal resulted in outrage by Armenian-American fans, who wrote letters to the Lakers guard, urging him to break his contract with the national air carrier of a country that has not recognized the Armenian Genocide.
