Earlier today, Vahagn Hayotsyan, the executive secretary of the opposition Pan-Armenian National Movement party, submitted a request to Yerevan City Hall to hold a rally in Liberty Square on May 31, followed by a march on the following route: Mashtots Ave. – Amiryan St. – Republic Square – Nalbandyan St. – Tumanyan St. – Liberty Square, Armenian National Congress (HAK) representative Tigran Arakelyan told Epress.am.
“According to the law, there has to be a discussion within a 72-hour period, after which the municipality has to make a decision whether to approve or deny the request,” he said.
Recall, for three years, the opposition bloc has been prohibited from holding rallies in Liberty Square — each time having its request denied. However, the last rally, on Apr. 28, broke the trend as it was the first time the opposition was granted permission in advance to hold a rally in Liberty Square — one of the three demands put forth by HAK to the Sargsyan administration.
