“In explicit terms, there’s no dialogue” in Armenia now, said New Times party leader Aram Karapetyan while speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
“There are certain conditions to begin [dialogue]; included in these conditions was the release of political prisoners after which, I believe, the dialogue will begin. HAK [the Armenian National Congress] has said the subject of the dialogue is elections, while the authorities say there’s no question of early elections. There’s an expression in Russian… [it means] a deaf person is dialoguing with someone who is mute,” he said.
Karapetyan added that if as an outcome of the dialogue early elections are called, if “in Armenia, the system will change, the bandit state will be dismantled, the Mongol-Tartars are going to leave Armenia,” then he welcomes this dialogue.
But if the purpose is to create a purely political moral-psychological atmosphere in Armenia which will result in the international community implementing its plans concerning Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia-Turkey relations, then, according to Karapetyan, this dialogue won’t lead to anything good.
The party leader also directed a question to HAK: “If they’re going to move toward dialogue, the next elections, won’t the authorities say, since we arrived at the next elections, you lost that part of the electorate which was ready for early elections and the figure they want to draw, if the elections will be rigged again, can be reduced.”
In Karapetyan’s opinion, the administration is currently attempting to deprive HAK of the possibility of speculation in the future.
He also noted that he can cooperate with HAK and develop a political situation only in the event of early elections. Karapetyan ruled out working with HAK on other issues.
