The general amnesty proposal declared by RA President Serzh Sargsyan is for the release of political prisoners, said coordinator of the Yerevan-based Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted People Vardan Harutyunyan.
“With this amnesty, all political prisoners without exception will be released because this is exactly for them. Taking this into consideration, the points in the text of the amnesty are not that important; that is, it’s not important with which point they will be granted amnesty,” he said.
Harutyunyan, however, declined from predicting whether all political prisoners would be released or not.
“I very much hope that all will be released, but since they’re still in prison I won’t make predictions. Also, I’m very happy that with this amnesty many people imprisoned under criminal charges will be released,” he said.
